JTG All Time Favorite Movies:

* Feel free to tear these apart or tell me what you like!  I’m sure I missed a few obvious ones, as I pretty much just put down movies as they popped in my head!

1)         The Empire Strikes Back – This has a lot to do with just taking me back to being a kid.  Harrison Ford is so cool as Han Solo its hard to put into words.  And above all things…I want a light-saber so bad I can taste it.

2)         Se7en – I would assume this is too dark for most people…but it’s just so damn cool to me.  The concept of using the ‘7 Deadly Sins’ as a backdrop for the movie is awesome.  And this has the best ending of any movie…ever.  Life doesn’t always work out in the end…so why should every movie?

3)         Pulp Fiction – So unique.

4)         The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King – I’m a sci-fi dork, and even though I put Star Wars over the LoTC…the fact that Peter Jackson gave George Lucas a run for his money is impressive.  I want to be Gandholf when I get older.

5)         Goodfellas – I dare you to not watch at least two segments of this movie whenever you see it come on the TV.

6)         Fight Club – Very unique movie as well, both Brad Pitt and Edward Norton kicked ass in this movie.

7)         The Departed – I don’t know how Marty Scorcesee made the violent scenes so realistic in this movie…but they are and they get my heart pumping.

8)       Saving Private Ryan – I remember watching this in the theatre, and I will never forget it.  The entire theatre – that was completely packed – was completely silent when they stormed the beach.  An old guy next to me was crying.  We cannot forget our history, and this movie helps that from happening.

9)         Full Metal Jacket – Stanley Kubrick is a genius.  And although a debate could be made if this is his best movie or not, there’s no doubt that this is an awesome movie.  The first half of the movie – the training – is superb.

10)       The Dark Knight – I had my hopes up for this movie, and it didn’t disappoint.  We’ll see if it stands the test of time, but with Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker…methinks it will.

11)       Snatch – I can understand completely why somebody wouldn’t like this movie.  I, however, love it and make a point to watch it once a year.  Then I walk around talking like a ‘Pikey’ for several days.

12)       Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade – With all due respect to ‘Raiders’, this is by far the best Indiana Jones movie.  I might have it even higher, but I’m still po’d at George Lucas for that last P.O.S. that they put out in 2008.

13)       Braveheart – Although I certainly agree that this movie is fantastic, I always sorta thought it was…just a tad…over-rated.  However, it’s very passionate and it makes me want to invade a country.

14)       Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2 – I give myself permission to put these movies in together because I saw them for the first time together.  (I watched Vol. 1 on DVD, then liked it so much that I ran to the theatre and watched Vol. 2 the same day).  Uma Thurman perfectly over-acted in this movie.

15)       Gangs of New York – Maybe just maybe a little over-rated here…but Daniel Day-Lewis was AWESOME and I liked the insight to this timeframe in our country’s history.

16)       The Incredibles – Such a great movie!  So much damn fun.  And not just because I “looke like zee dad”!

17)       Pirates of the Caribbean – The sequels were an absolute disaster, but Johnny Depp is so good in this movie it’s kinda scary.  He IS the movie.

18)       Rocky 4 – Kinda going on childhood again here…but this movie still rocks.  Makes me wanna work out every time I watch it.

19)       Blazing Saddles – This movie is funny as hell, and provides the most one-liners in the history of movies.

20)       Tommy Boy – Chris Farley and this movie will always have a special place in my heart.  The diner scene where Tommy Boy destroys the roll is hilarious.

21)       Tombstone – OK…this is kind of a B movie…I get it.  But it’s still fun and Val Kilmer kicks ass.

22)       Dr Strangelove – Another Stanley Kubrick masterpiece.  The performance(s) by Peter Sellers is under-rated…he’s amazing.

23)       The Devil Wears Prada – Yea that’s right…I’m straight.  I don’t care…this movie is awesome.

24)       A Perfect World – To date, the only movie that made me cry.

25)       Adaptation – A little slow…but very good.

26)       The Royal Tenenbaums – This movie just kills me.  You have to have a certain sense of humor to like it.

Imagine being a kid again and watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull…does that make it any better? I agree it wasn’t as great as the others but we were also kids when those were out and our imaginations were in overdrive…your thoughts?

Matt! Good to hear from ya!

I’m sure I would like it more if I were a kid – no doubt. But it’s definitely still a few steps short of the originals. Did I still like it? Yes. But if they make another one – and it’s being talked about – I hope it’s a little better.

I hope you are well, man!
